Astronomers have captured images of a black hole shredding and eating a star

October 13, 2020

At 215 million light-years away, this process is the closest ever observed by astronomers.

Astronomers have managed to photograph a very unique process known as “spaghettification”. This is when a black whole shreds and consumes a star. At 215 million light-years away, this spaghettification process is the closest ever observed by astronomers. When looking at the image, one can see that it looks almost as if the black whole is wrapping itself around the star like a piece of pasta.
