Several conspiracy theories are busy doing the rounds on social media.
What was supposed to be a fun night out for Travis Scott fans turned out to be an event that most people wish they never attended. This comes after at least 8 people died at the event when the crowd began to rage, stamping over one another in several overcrowded mosh pits.
A human stampede began when Travis Scott took the stage at the mega music event. With thousands of people in attendance, things quickly took a turn for the worst. On TikTok, several people who attended the event said that they feared for their lives and that they saw people injured or dead on the ground as they tried to get out of the mosh pits.
Despite several people trying to get the organisers to stop the show, Travis Scott continued his performance, which made it even harder for emergency personnel and security to get the raging crowd under control. Some commentators have said that Travis could not have been expected to know what was going on in the crowd as he was on stage and his view of the people in front of him would have been unclear due to the lights and visuals directed at him.
Others, though, have labelled the tragedy as something even more sinister. Some are saying that the show was some kind of satanic ritual and that Travis purposefully did not stop the show when people started screaming for help as part of an offering to the devil. Although this may be far-fetched, on TikTok, videos of Travis smiling and continuing the show while people not too far from the stage are clearly in distress has caused widespread outrage.
Others have said that people were unknowingly injected with drugs as they were standing in the crowd. One security guard also made this claim and medical staff confirmed that they identified a jab mark on him, which also led to a lot of speculation about what actually happened at Astroworld.
Currently, at least two investigations are underway into the liability that Travis and event organisers could be facing. One person is also suing Drake and Travis Scott because they are arguing that the events were “predictable and preventable”.
Travis Scott has not yet made an official statement about what transpired at Astroworld.
