The military has been deployed at several hot spots to maintain the peace.
In Cape Town, news has surfaced that taxi associations plan on wreaking havoc on several taxi routes today due to the Western Cape Government’s decision to close selected routes. Taxi violence has flared up since last week, leading to officials closing certain routes to protect lives and put an end to the lawlessness. Now, the SANDF and other security agencies have been deployed all over the Cape Town area to keep the peace. Several messages have surfaced where taxi associations seem to be calling on members to make the province and its roads ungovernable today. Officials have said that they are on high alert, especially as many children are returning to school today and roads are bound to be busier than usual.
