Several protests were underway across Cape Town this morning.
Major highways and roads were brought to a standstill early on Monday morning as the Gatvol Capetonian protests gripped the Mother City. On Sunday evening, news broke that the group, led by the Cape Coloured People’s Congress, plan to shutdown the city on Monday. Although the group has called for nonviolent protests, it seems that many of the smaller riots did in fact lead to aggressive behaviour as people reported incidents of stone throwing and hijackings.
