Lucky followers just had to retweet his tweet to enter the draw.
Who says politicians don’t have fashion influence?! Julius Malema recently decided to gift 50 lucky followers with brand new pairs of Cassper Nyovest’s sneakers. Those who wanted a shot at winning the shoes simply had to retweet his tweet.
“In support of a black child, black enterprise and black business – The first 50 people to retweet this tweet, using this hashtag: #RF990 and @casspernyovest, will get #RF990 sneakers directly from Don Billiato himself, in a venue to be communicated directly to the winners,” the tweet read.

Cassper responded by thanking Malema for his initiative. “What a great thing to wake up to. Thank you, CIC. Let’s do it.”
Cassper’s shoes were first released on 9 July 2021. Speaking about the sneakers during their launch, he said that the idea was born out of his dream to combine his music with fashion.
“At the beginning of lockdown, I found myself at home, feeling useless as I was stuck in my house and I was in the weirdest place. I used to be celebrated everywhere I go and get paid to just show up at venues,” said Nyovest at the time.
The shoes, Drip 990, cost R990 per pair. Thus, it is going to set Malema back by about R49 500 to sponsor the 50 pairs he is giving away.
Malema’s followers reacted positively to his campaign, saying that it is a great way to uplift the black community.

Some users, however, slated Malema for not doing more out of his own pocket to help the community.

Malema has since continued to retweet content posted by Drip Sneakers, who is working with Cassper to create the Drip 990’s.
