The DA has invited them to answer questions from MP’s on misinformation on its platform.
The DA invited Facebook to Parliament a while back to answer questions that local politicians have about misinformation and fake news on their platform. Although most people didn’t think too much of it, the DA was very serious about getting a tech giant to bow down before the country’s parliament. Facebook has accepted the invitation and will meet with MP’s on 25 May. According to the DA, this is the first time that Facebook has agreed to meet with politicians in Africa and they hope the meeting can be constructive as they discuss the influence and power Facebook has over the opinion of citizens and their data.
